Understanding the goals, limitations, and users
When I work with a project, I usually have certain goals or metrics to achieve. Understanding what I'm trying to achieve and any limitations is key. Then, I identify all potential users of the product and prioritize them based on these goals.
01
Breaking down the JTBD, identifying problems,
and defining the variables of success
Customers are different; however, they are using our product to achieve the same purpose. So it is really crucial to understand their core jobs, functional, and emotional aspects they are considering when achieving that purpose.
In this step, I try to figure out the user/customer journey, what are the jobs they are trying to do in each step of the journey, what problems they are having in each step, and what are the value parameters that they are using to measure the success of those jobs. Understanding these helps me to create right value for the customers/users.
02
Identifying the root causes
behind the problems and their contexts
As a first principle thinker, I reckon problems are like symptoms and there are always some causes behind them. It's crucial to dig into the context surrounding these issues and uncover the root causes for effective problem-solving. This thorough understanding sets the stage for comprehensive solutions and successful outcomes.
03
Brainstorming and defining solution
Once I've identified and prioritized the key problems and tasks, the next step involves proposing effective solutions. This collaborative process includes brainstorming for creative ideas, prioritizing prioritized them based on the business goals and other aspects, discussing the feasibility of solutions with engineers, designing the layouts, prototyping, testing with the users, and re-iterating depending on the user feedback. This joint effort ensures a well-rounded approach to creating and implementing successful solutions that address the identified issues.
04
Getting prepared for design hand-offs
The concluding steps involve preparing necessary documentation and design assets for the engineers and a comprehensive product requirements document to ensure a shared understanding within the team. I also collaborate with clients to define metrics and assist in developing a go-to-market strategy. This holistic approach ensures a smooth and well-coordinated product development and launch process.
